Reading:  This week in reading, we focused on decoding strategies.  We are working hard to use picture clues along with a beginning sound, looking at all the parts of the word, and thinking about what would make sense.  These are all strategies you can be practicing with your child when he/she is reading at home.  Please do not tell your child any words in the guided reading books he/she is bringing home to read to you.  Please encourage him/her to use a strategy to figure it out him/herself.

Writing:  This week in writing, we worked to add details to our stories.  We are working on telling them in itsy bitsy steps and including action words for helping our characters to move.  We also continue to make sure that our sentences make sense when we write and that we can read our writing after we are finished with it.

Math:  We continued to focus on using our number racks and ten frames to make numbers this week.  Your child should be able to tell you different number combinations that make both 5 and 10 for totals.

Next week:  Next week we will be starting to work with some measurement in math.  We will also continue to study snap (sight) words in phonics and reading.  Our special next week will be music.

Star Students:  Carson: for working hard to sound out words when he is writing!

Harper:  for following directions the first time they are given!

Reminders:  Thank you for helping your child with his/her homework each night.  We will have homework almost every night, so please help your child remember to work on this.

Thursdays are our library days.  Please make sure your child has his/her books returned to school by Thursday each week.

Thursday, October 1st will be Packer Green and Gold day.  Wear your Packer colors to show your football spirit!  (If you are not a Packer fan, you can wear your favorite team’s colors instead)

The next virtual PTA meeting will be Wednesday, October 21st at 6:00.  All parents/guardians are encouraged to attend!

As always, thank you for supporting your child’s learning!  If you ever have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me. J
