First Grade Happenings

Friday, March 6, 2020

Reading:  In reading this week, we enjoyed meeting in books clubs.  We read several books by the same author and compared them.  We also picked our favorite of the books and shared why we liked that one the best.

Writing:  We started writing poetry this week!  This is a very different kind of writing, but it is fun!  We learned that we can truly write a poem about anything that we want.

Math:  We were very excited to start to learn to tell time this week!  Please note that in first grade we learn to tell time to the hour and half hour only.  This is a great thing to practice with your child at home.

Science/Social Studies:  We started a new social studies unit this week by talking about the different views.  We talked about a map view and have started looking more closely at maps and their features.

Next week:  We will be working with asking and answering questions while we read.  We will also continue to work on writing poetry and telling time.

Star Students: Alex M.: for his willingness to try new things and for always following directions the first
