Welcome to Franklin Elementary!
My name is Matt Heller and I am the new principal at Franklin. I have been working here since July and enjoyed getting to know the students and staff during summer school.
I am originally from Chicago and moved to Wisconsin seven years ago to be closer to my parents. I taught and coached for ten years in Chicago and have been a principal for the last eleven years. I worked at both Green Bay East high school and Nicolet Elementary, but have heard great things about the Manitowoc Public School District and made the decision to work in Manitowoc this summer.
I have both a master’s and doctoral degree in education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I am a lifelong learner and believe that everyone can learn and grow, from our pre-K students all the way up to our adults. The focus of all decisions at Franklin will be centered on student learning and what is best for our community of learners. I welcome parent input and involvement, so please feel free to call, email, or stop by my office anytime.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading, music, and watching soccer. My wife and I have a son that will be starting college in the fall and his younger brother is still in high school.
I look forward to an amazing 2022-23 school year and to meeting everyone in the Franklin community!
